Weight Loss Challange...on a budget

Now many of you know that over the last 8 months my husband Eric has made a HUGE change in his life. Right before Christmas he committed himself to a healthier lifestyle and it's paying off. To date he has lost 72 lbs! You can read his blog here.Now I'm a "healthy" girl (we will not say the "f" word in this post!), but what kind of wife would I be if I let my husband get skinnier than me!?  Along with my vanity and not wanting to be the only "healthy" person in my house, there is also the health side of this. I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) which causes all kinds of "fun" side effects with the biggest two issues being difficulty with fertility, weightloss and basically I have "fake" diabetes. My body produces stuff that looks like insulin, acts like insulin but doesn't effect my sugar levels like insulin but provides all the bad stuff like higher risk of heart disease, cancer, heart attack, etc. Crazy I know!

So combine the fact that this is good for me with the challenge our Pastor Dustin issued the other day about "Bringing Sexy Back" (you can listen to that message here WARNING! ADULT CONTENT) by pledging to get fit and donate to a mission trip our church is supporting (long winded I know!).........I am jumping on the weight loss band wagon! Eric and I have both pledged $1 per pound to the mission.

So what is my plan? Well, besides the medication that the doctor which helps with the PCOS my goal is to just eat healthier. Cut back on calories, nothing drastic just a gradual change. Aim to eat more natural foods, when we can afford it and somewhere in this crazy, hectic life of mine fit in some exercise between being a housewife, raising two kids, homeschooling and writing this blog! That's it! Plain and simple.

What can you expect from HOC? I'll be researching more deals on healthier food when I can find it on sale! That's harder than you think!

So what do I want you to do with this information?

#1 Join me! Find something in your life that you can work on and DO IT! Doesn't matter what it is weight, addictions of all kinds, budget, etc.
#2 Find someone to help stay accountable for what you are trying to change. I'll be posting weekly about my success/failures so all of you will help keep me accountable! Weigh ins will be on Wednesdays.

Another week of deals! 8/29-9/4

I know I say this almost every week, but I feel it's worth repeating. What I consider freebies and what other bloggers consider "freebies" are VASTLY different. I like my stuff free after coupons, not after rebates UNLESS it's a good price and something I use often. I don't spend more my money on products that I don't need in order to get the rebates to make that item "free"...does that make sense? With that said, here are this week's deals!

It's finally here! Walgreens has FINALLY issued a corporate coupon policy! And it's a good thing! Finally proof that the customers have ALWAYS been right!

Go here to read and print your copy. Bring it the store when you go since this is a new policy.

Highlights of this new policy:

* Two coupons per item, one manufacturer and one walgreens coupon
*Two coupons on BOGO items!
*Walgreens will adjust the coupon DOWN so it doesn't exceed the price of the item! (This is a big deal! That's the problem I have everytime.)

Diapers and Milk....the essentials of having a baby!

  

There are two things babies can't live without...diapers and milk! Baby essentials are expense! I mean real expensive! The cost of Huggies diapers and Enfamil formula (when paying full price) for one month is equal to my car payment!!!!! Yeah I know ridiculous! It's not like we haven't already dropped a small house off at the hospital to pay for giving birth. Isn't the pain enough payment? Anyway, now how to get them cheap or possibly FREE? insert me**jumping up and down screaming I KNOW I KNOW!**

Ally-gator turned one year old last week and I've not paid full price for a pack of diapers since she was 3 months old. Sales and coupons are now my best friend (sorry Dawn!) I stock up on diapers when I can and I rarely pay more than $4 a pack and I'm usually getting something else cheap or free to go with it (i.e. baby food, wipes, snacks).

First, as soon as you find out you are pregnant sign up with EVERY baby company you can find like Huggies, Pampers, Enfamil, Similac, Gerber, etc. Every one of these companies will flood your mailbox and inbox with coupons and samples of all kinds. Then start hoarding those coupons(but make sure you use them before they expire!) Also, if you are a Publix or Winn Dixie shopper sign up for their baby clubs, because they send awesome coupons too. (If you drive out of state like me, to shop at a Publix go here to read how to sign up for the baby club and Publix magazines).

Now it's time to work those deals! My preferred place to shop for diapers is Rite Aid, because they consistently have the best deals. My friend Crystal at Crystal the Coupon Momma posts the best diaper deal available each week. I try to post the link here just in case you forget to go look!

Sunday ad match round up!

I was a slacker last week and never got around to HP's and Greer's. Sorry about that! It was a crazy week! My baby turned 1 on Wednesday! The year has flown by...I won't waste anymore time...here are the match ups for this week!

Kind of a lack luster week I think. I'll say again, be careful with the ECB and RR deals that say FREE after rebates and coupons. I personally do not buy these items unless it's something I really need because lots of times you still pay a good bit out of pocket before the discounts. So just be careful. Did that make sense?

The Gulf Is Back Benefit Concert.....or How I got grossed out by David Hasselhoff!

You all know I love a deal! Eric scored us free tickets to "The Gulf Is Back" benefit concert last night at the coliseum. Mostly b-listers but it was fun! Well except for David Hasselhoff. Can I just say EWWW!?! I enjoyed Lonestar (despite the cocky new lead singer who looks like he could one of their sons!). Bo Bice was awesome and very talented. We had a chance to get an autograph but had nothing for him to sign. Terry Clark did a great job too. I LOVED Taylor Hicks! He was awesome! However, the lowest point of the evening was David Hasselhoff. I could have lived my entire life without seeing that horrible, cheesy, self absorbed production! I can't even begin to explain this maybe I just need to show a video....



Imagine something much like this LIVE! It was............... bad! He sang this horrible kitschy song about "how he feels". Something Molly at the age of 7 could have written! Then he did this huge high kick in front of this ladies face. He should owe her some money for being blinded for life by the view! But that's what we've talked about the most! Had a great time! And the BEST burger afterwards at Mugshots! Delicious! I will be eating the rest of it for lunch today!
