How Much Did I Save Today? CVS, Winn Dixie and Rouses

It's rare that I do not have a coupon class to teach on a Saturday. This week it just so happened we had a Marriage Conference at church all weekend. I took advantage of this rare day off to do some of my shopping. I had my 2 yr. old in tow and she was GREAT! Saying hello to everyone that passed by. I think I spent more time talking to strangers commenting on how cute she was, than I spent looking for deals.

First stop, CVS. Usually the next week's sale is in the computer on Saturday afternoons but apparently they were running behind or lying to keep from selling stuff today. No big deal, I go to church in the same parking lot so I'll just swing in tomorrow morning.

We are starting intense potty training next week and I think I'll need bribes, so the Skittles are for Allyson and the Starbursts are going into care packages that the kids in our church home group will be putting together tomorrow.

2-Dole Fruit Bowls $1.67 ea.
-$1/2 (not sure where I got it!)
1-Starburst and Skittles $3 ea
-(2)$1/1 Skittles, Starburst or Life Savers
-BOGO CVS coupon from coupon machine
Total OOP: $2.05

Now on to Winn Dixie. Remember to hand over your coupons first BEFORE your rewards card. I ran into a great deal on organic chicken andouille sausage and couldn't pass it up! We've had it before and thought it was pretty good, plus andouille was on my list! The WD coupons listed were on the products I bought today.

1-WD Pina Colada Creme Cake $5.99
-$3/1 WD coupon
1-Dole Salad kit $2.50
-$1.25/1 Dole Salad kit tear pad
2-Hormel Naturals lunch meat $3.99 BOGO

2-WD long grain rice $2.19 BOGO
2-Welch's Essential Juice $3.29 (not pictured)
-$2/2 hang tag (found today at WD)
Total OOP: $38.29

Last stop, Rouses. They had ground chuck for $1.89 lb and 3lb bags of onions for $1.99. Both really good prices, plus a few others deals I wanted to take advantage of before the end of the sale. We are not coke drinkers (for those outside of the South, we don't drink pop or soda). I always found it funny how down here when some one asks "what do you want to drink?" your response is "a coke" and the follow up question  is "what kind?". My experience living up north was everyone called "cokes" soda or pop. I tend to still use soda from time to time. Anyone, point of the story is, we have our church home group meeting tomorrow and we'll be tailgating next Saturday, so I thought since it was a good deal I'd grab some cokes....errr sprite!

1-Yellow Onions 3 lb. bag $1.99
1-Country Crock $2.50
-$.50/1 printable (no longer available check your binders)
2-Cheez It's $1.99 ea.
*Planned to use $1/2 printable here but, just  word of warning it would not scan nor would the computer take it manually. I WILL be sending an email to snackpicks/sunshine/keebler
2- Sprite 12 pks $3 ea. (not pictured)
-(2)$1.50/1 Sprite wyb one Cheez Its Happy New School Year booklet

How Much Did I Save Today? CVS and Target

Ran out this morning to take Molly to her first orthodontist appointment and had no choice but to go get diapers...and darn it just realized I forgot to grab butter again!..........anyway I figured why not go on to Target since I had to go to d'Iberville to retrieve my binder from hubby's car anyway. So, mid-day south Mississippi with two kids and a car with no a/c, we headed to some shopping!  I normally try NOT to do running in the daytime, the car with no a/c is our back up car for "emergencies" like running out of diapers or 9 am dental appointments.

Meat, produce, clothes. The three hardest things to really save a lot of money on. So when I run across a good sale and I have the extra money I try to stock up. I had received TWO of those $10/$10 JcPenny coupons in the mail in the past week. I love these coupons! I can always find something for around $10 at Penny's, especially in their clearance (which is marked up to 80% off right now!)

Molly had a Frontier Girls meeting in Gautier this morning, so we made plans to head to JcPenny's afterwards. I had my coupons I received at home and I had the $10/$25 coupon from the sale ad that came out this week.

I haven't had a chance to make it to the grocery store this week and after being out of town we were out of a few things and there were several really nice deals I wanted to grab before the sales change. So after my class this morning I ran home had lunch and then went to Winn Dixie and Rouses. While there I ran into one of my couponing students who just took the class last night! She did great, saving close to 50% off of her bill!

Today's CVS Shopping Trip and church

So I typically do not go shopping before church, but we were actually EARLY today (mark it down it doesn't happen often!) so I had Eric stop at CVS before we parked to go in because I wanted to grab some of the Schick razors that were on sale (Spend $20 get $10 ECB deal). Ran in really fast, spoke to one of my couponing students who was there shopping, handed her a few coupons I wasn't going to use and grabbed my razors!

-(2) FREE Schick Razor (up to $10.99) from where I emailed the company and Voiced My Opinion
OOP: $0 + tax ($1.54)
Got back:
$10 Schick ECB wy spend $20

I hopped back in the car and headed to church, which thankfully is in the same parking lot! I enjoyed a great time of worship and a wonderful message on Doctrine and what Christians should believe. The most important thing: Everything is about God!

Stole this picture from my friend Pamela. That's not a rock concert! It's Mosaic Worship!

Ran back home after church, dropped off the kids and the hubby then drove back to CVS. Have I mentioned how much I love living in Ocean Springs? Everything is so convenient! Thank goodness I just live right around the corner from CVS!

I grabbed my binder with no idea of what I was getting except contact solution and pens (which is TOTALLY uncharacteristic since ya'll know I say plan, plan, plan!) and headed in. Ran into another couponing student, Kim. I beat her to the last bottle of contact solution! Sorry Kim! Here are the next two transactions that I did. My goal was milk, sugar, snacks for our trip later this week to Kentucky for a family reunion and supplies for an ice cream activity while at the reunion.

Today's shopping trip...and why I've broken my budget the last two weeks!

I try REALLY hard to stick to my budget and most of the time I'm successful. The last two weeks however have been a different story! With family expected to be in town for the next week I've tried to plan my meals and have my act together so that I'm not having to spend my time planning and shopping while they are here. I've gone beyond my regular $40-$50 a week budget by about $40-$50 both weeks! Mostly because I've had some extra income from watching kids and other things and I've run across some great deals and I've been thankful to have that extra money so I can stock up.

If you haven't attended a class and as a refresher for those who have, here is my method to saving money:

  1. Start with a budget! Don't have one? Look at what you spend on average, that's the budget you should start with.
  2. Shop from your freezer and pantry! Make a menu each week and fill the best you can with what you have on hand.
  3. Make 2 lists: Needs and Wants
    • Needs: What you have to have to make it this week. (i.e. toilet paper, dog food, milk, lunchmeat, etc.)
    • Wants: Stockpiling opportunities
  4. TAKE CARE OF YOUR NEEDS LIST FIRST!!!! Then use the remaining budget to stockpile.

So here's today's shopping trip(s).

Long trip, busy weekend, but well worth it! Without coupons I would have spent $397.31 which use to be my entire month's budget. Because of coupons I only spent $143.97. Overall I saved 64%!  The only things I didn't get this week diapers but that's ok because I still have a pile from the Walgreens brand BOGO a few weeks ago when I paid $1.50 a package.

The only things I'll need to pick up over the next few weeks will be milk and meat. I can live with that!
