Coupons and after lunch Coffee

Mornin! err I mean....Afternoon! Between a morning meeting that got me up and out of the house at a crazy time and dealing with the after effects of Extreme Couponers and the HUGE increase in followers of this blog, I'm running a little behind (wait seems like I've typed that phrase before? hmmm) Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled programming!

Want an interesting read? Check out this story posted about  Jamie Kirlew, one of the couponers featured on Extreme Couponers. Seems she has a reputation of using coupons fraudulently and it's all documented on youtube! IF the accusations in this story are true (which I have reason to believe they are) TLC and Jamie committed fraud on national television. What does that mean for us? Well worst case scenario it could mean the end of couponing as we know it, best case scenario Jamie and TLC will be reprimanded for their wrong doing. We just have to wait and see how the cookie crumbles..stay tuned!

AGAIN I DO NOT SUPPORT THE COUPONING METHODS BEING AIRED ON EXTREME COUPONERS. REALITY IS THAT MOST COUPONERS CANNOT/SHOULDN'T SHOP LIKE THESE PEOPLE.

New to couponing and don't know where to start!

Maybe you saw someone checking out at the store that saved a ton with coupons, you overheard someone talking about it or you saw those crazy people on "Extreme Couponing" on TLC and now you want to get in on the money saving action too. Well you've come to the right place!

Here are just a few steps to get you started. For more in depth detail click on the How to Get Started tab at the top of the page or attend one of HOC's free classes(sign up here).

First things first:

  1. You CANNOT be brand loyal. When using coupons and to maximize savings you have to be willing to buy different brands because they are at the best price.
  2. Set a budget NOW! For the first month or two set your budget to what you normally spend. This will allow you to begin stockpiling. After you have built a small (1-2 month supply) of products you use regularly slowly start to cut your budget in $5-$10 increments. I would also suggest keeping this money in cash in an envelope system to help keep you accountable to stay within your budget.
  3. Buy ONLY what you need FIRST! Alway, Always, Always buy what your family needs right now FIRST before you even think about stockpiling. Start by compiling a list of what you need now(items you've run out of or are running low on), make a menu using products you have on hand and stretch it as far as you can go.Once you have your list of needs and your menu planned look at the grocery store sale ads from your paper or online and find the best deals on anything you need to complete your menu and fill your needs list.
  4. Stockpile AFTER your needs are fulfilled. After you have shopped for your needs take any money you have left over from your budget and stockpile on any products that are on sale at a good price. Only use what you have left from your budget! I would also suggest not spending every last penny of that budget money because it never fails that you've forgotten something that you need!
  5. You're budget will not but cut in half immediately and you won't be getting $1,000's of dollars worth of products for pennies the first time you shop, so don't get discouraged.

Tune in tomorrow for how to get those coupons and how to organize them.

Coupons and Coffee

Mornin! First of all let me welcome all the new followers from the "Extreme Couponing" discussion boards! WOW! We've almost hit 400 on Facebook! Thanks ya'll for liking the page, following this blog and telling your friends. Please know that the kind of couponing that is being aired on "Extreme Couponing" is not a typical couponer, nor would I advise anyone to coupon this way. I'm all for stockpiling in reasonable amounts and I do NOT promote clearing the shelves! That is a dirty practice and leave your fellow couponers upset for not being able to grab a deal. My rule of thumb is 4 identical deals or less in any single trip.

It was a crazy day yesterday. My apologies for not posting the regular Coupons and Coffee feature. Remember the other day when I said I'm waiting and letting God lead me...we'll the plan went into motion yesterday with full force!

We still don't have a winner for the Thirty One Giveaway! Remember you can post twice! This has been funnier than I thought thanks to Dawnmarie! So, head on over to this post and leave a comment...any comment!

Enough rambling! We're back on track this morning with a full list of goodies. Ya'll enjoy and grab some deals. If you are new to couponing head over to the how to get started guide.
